It is possible, and this is my theory, but has been proven to be true in many cases, that when the program first starts, some memory, aside from the 8 megs, is allocated by windows and/or maybe the programmer. It could be as little as .6 megs, but this may be enough to through it over the top. Also, I have had problems with inacurate malloc returns more than once.
