cannot get the sound to come on. i have a clieNX60. any suggestions?

I can get sound to come on, unfortunately, there's a constant clicking noise if the sound is enabled. If game sound is on in my system preferences, the clicking comes on when I run snails, regardless of the settings of sound in the game itself (ie, background music, sound effects can both be muted, but I still hear the loud clicking noice). When I turn the game sound on, I can hear it faintly behind the clicking noise, but it's difficult to hear. It seems like that clicking noise corresponds to game slowdowns as well.

I'm running Snails on a palm Tungsten T2.
