Running Snails from PC card in J720

Running Snails from PC card in J720

Postby ray_7 » Feb 20, 2003 @ 5:08pm

Finally I've bought a 720 for myself, and now I'm having fun with it.

Just having a problem with running Snails off my Kingston 2GB PC card. Everytime a weapon is about to be shot, it lags, reading from the card. When I installed it in the RAM, everything runs smoothly.

Is it meant to be like this? Maybe future updates shud consider this...

That's the nature of your storage card. It takes about 80 to 120 milliseconds for your 2GB PC Card hard disk drive to spin up to find and read the data. Every game you install on your HDD will act in a very similar fashion, from Turjah, to Snails, to anything else you can think of. Snails is great at using very little program memory, also, which is a key selling point to all software for PDAs. If the game were to load every weapon and snail animation before the level it would take drastically more amounts of time to load each level and would use up much more of your PPC's program memory. That might not be a concern to you since you install everything to a 2GB HDD, but to people that actually use their devices for business, to read emails, view webpages, or work on documents it means a lot to have a game that won't take up all of your memory so you don't have to delete your important files in order to play one game.
