VANCOUVER, Canada – October 11, 2004 – Droneship Software today announced the availability of a new release of the PocketHAL hardware abstraction layer for mobile devices. PocketHAL 0.7.5 is a C++ development library that provides the fastest graphics performances on Pocket PCs, Windows CE, Symbian Serie 60 and Symbian UIQ devices. PocketHAL has been used in research, the automotive industry and countless number of commercial mobile games.

PocketHAL 0.7.5 has support for all flavors of Pocket PCs, Smartphones, Symbian Serie 60 and Symbian UIQ. It provides workarounds for devices whose display access implementation is broken or inefficient, making it the only graphics library to properly support all devices.

PocketHAL 0.7.5 provides a uniform interface to the display hardware of mobile devices. The pixel format is always the same (16 bits) and the frame buffer is linear. This means that developers save time by not having to worry about physical screen properties such as pixel format and orientation.

PocketHAL 0.7.5 also supports the emulators for the various supported devices. Some emulators lack in key areas (such as timer resolution) and PocketHAL work around these limitations to provide you with better emulation. For example, you can expect the Symbian emulator to provide a 16.67 ms resolution timer (instead of the usual 100 ms).

PocketHAL 0.7.5 is available now and the watermarked version is free of charge for any usage. Non-watermarked versions are also available in exchange of a donation. Download PocketHAL from www.droneship.com.

Hi Thierry,

Do we get fullscreen support (or different resolutions) on the PC with this version? If so, can it be used with PF 0.8.x or we will have to wait for the next version of PF?

Unfortunately full-screen support didn't make it this time. It definitely will on the next release as I am working on it right now (as I am on the Palm port).

This version (0.7.5) can be used as-is with PF 0.8.x. It is mostly a release for Symbian devices.
