I suppose that it is ok to write your own defines for TCHAR:s and whatever functions from the windows API that you want. Why shouldn't it be ok? Do you mean that you can copyright typenames? If that is the fact, my guess is that a lot of programs are breaking copyright laws. Just curious :)

You can safely define TCHARs if you want to - which is exactly what we do in GapiDraw for Symbian. Microsoft has not copyrighted the term "TCHAR". If you look at the source code for other cross-platform projects such as Unreal Tournament you'll find definitions for TCHAR's there as well.
