Develant Announces OpenTrek 3.5

Develant Announces OpenTrek 3.5

Postby Johan » Aug 23, 2004 @ 10:43am

GOTEBORG, Sweden – August 23, 2004 – Develant Technologies today announced a major update to their OpenTrek networking platform. OpenTrek is a platform for creating synchronous peer-to-peer networking applications for stationary PCs and Windows Mobile devices, and is used in over 30 networked games and applications. New features in OpenTrek 3.5 is full support for the GapiDraw graphics platform, including full-screen display mode on stationary PCs, support for Windows Mobile 2003 devices, and a new server-based architecture to work through firewalls and routers.

OpenTrek 3.5 is designed to make it easy to develop networked applications for handheld devices. Take an existing application created with the GapiDraw platform, add the OpenTrek framework to the project, and the application will immediately begin to receive notifications on other devices, network messages, and be able to send network messages to any device connected in the peer-to-peer network. OpenTrek 3.5 is fully compatible with GapiDraw 3.5, making the transition from GapiDraw to OpenTrek an easy one.

A new feature in OpenTrek 3.5 is significantly improved network performance on Windows Mobile 2003 devices, while still keeping backwards compatibility with Pocket PC 2002 devices. OpenTrek is specifically designed for Wireless LAN networks, and will automatically send and receive network messages through unicast, multicast or broadcast depending on the situation.

For network environments where devices are not located on the same subnet (which is a requirement for them to find each other without a central server), OpenTrek 3.5 now ships with an online server, OpenServer, that can be used to distribute information such as IP addresses and routing information to all connected devices. OpenServer is shipped as a component with OpenTrek so you can run the server on your own network.

OpenTrek 3.5 will be released free of charge in October 2004. Commercial use of OpenTrek requires a valid license of the GapiDraw platform. Beta releases of OpenTrek 3.5 can be downloaded from www.develant.com
