Interstellar Flames progress

Interstellar Flames progress

Postby simonjacobs » Mar 26, 2002 @ 3:01pm

A quick progress report: the game is (obviously) taking longer than I thought. It will be released in April not March as I originally hoped. I will try and put up a public early demo version for you to play around with sometime next week though. For the moment here is a screenshot:

Notice the perspective-correct texturing on the big enemy dreadnought. I'll try to post some more interesting screenshots with enemy fighters and explosions soon.

Simon.

Die, Palm, Die. If that offended you, then get rid of your Palm OS device.

The initial version will require a 200 MHz ARM processor. That is, iPaq's and Pocket PC 2002 devices. MIPS/SH3 versions could follow but they would have to be cut down in some way. Basically the problem is that the game is partly written in ARM assembler plus its pushing the pocket pc pretty much to the limits in terms of 3D rendering capability.

Desktop version: certainly possible. The game is optimised for a small display though, and I dont claim the 3D engine competes with the ones for 1 GHz desktop pc's with 5th generation hardware 3d acceleration :)

Nope, no video. Sorry but I dont think it is a good idea. I will post more screenshots soon and a demo as soon as possible, which will run on the iPaq.

A video of a game you cant play isnt much use to you surely?

Simon.

I own a Mips device, but I can understand why this is basically an ARM only version. ASM on two different procs would be a bitch to manage.

I can hear all kinds of people complaining and hoping for their dinosaur of a device to be supported. But in this instance I am glad Simon is looking into the future, and he has a focus.

Xen Games and Simon are nothing like Argentana.

What type of game is this, exactly? A space fighter simulator like Freespace or Tie Fighter? Or is it just a shooter like Silpheed?
