Argentum and Emperor

Argentum and Emperor

Postby randall » Jun 23, 2001 @ 2:46pm

Anyone played "Emperor" yet? It's a pretty cool RTS - but I haven't figured out alot of strategy yet. The animations for building structures are interesting.

Ships and buildings cast shadows that follow the shape of the terrain, but they could be better; they aren't transparent at all.

While I was playing Emperor I immediately thought of Argentum- except for the fact that I think that Argentums buildings look much better.

Other than that, I can't really compare the two since I haven't seen the Argentum engine in action.

No... its a PC game that was just recently released. Sorry, I guess I should have specified that.

People have been asking if Argentum was like StarCraft, or WarCraft, or Command and Conquer, or Red Alert or...

So I thought I would throw this in

Last modification: randall - 06/23/01 at 12:15:57

I must admit. Those buildings look very cool. John Lomax (Spelling?) is a great artist, heheh.
I hope to see more. My question is...how small will they appear on my PPC? I know details may not be as evident but I wonder whats about the actual size gonna be....

This game is sweeeet. An awesome RTS of the Westwood Studios series. Something Red Alert 2 should have been.

Regarding unit sizes.

Units will be quite small, but they look gorgeous even when scaled. Hopefully we'll be able to release some screenshots by the end of the week...we'll probably also have an announcement to make then. But we won't tell you now... ;)

// Fredrik
As for Emperor.

I would say argentum looks somewhat like Emperor (from what I've seen on the screenshots). We don't have those realtime 3D units and different zoom levels and all that dynamic lightning that makes it look so cool, but the landscape looks somewhat the same. I would say our shadows from the hills actually looks better (I've rewritten the shadow logic so it is better than that on current screenshots). But don't take my word for it. Wait till you get some decent screenshots.

Be well...
