FATHAMMER

Postby vic » May 6, 2003 @ 3:43am

ive been reading this post. well im one of the developers that wouldnt pay for an engine, specially at those prices. thats why im building my own system for slow devices like pockets. ive been based on the intel's GPP library. even if its for pxa250, its worth a try. it features everything you need for an engine. im still implementing it to the engine, but i think this is something.
peace !

Ive got about 8 months to develop my own engine,so i get that it would be better to develop my own, as though diesel and fathammer have some benefits ,these are outweighed by their license cost.

would people agree with this assumption

hi, engines are for sale coz there are companies developing games, and that want to concentrate on the game itself, not the core engine for it, etc..
thats why theres fathammers and others outthere.. and that does make money for them.. its a business!

if you have the money why not spend it in a engine. it will save you alot of trouble and worktime.. so just buy it! otherwise you'll have to pay someone to make your own (is this even cheaper?) or you'll have to do it yourself..

about your situation, i think 8 months is alot of time, but that also depends what kinda features your engine is supposed to support, what will the game use, etc.. all that counts!
anyway i wish you luck!

Also realize that these engines aren't priced to be hobbiest friendly (Which most everyone here is). These are commercial grade engines for large (referring to funding size, not project size) projects that target MANY platforms at once.
