Wine, Linux, ActiveSync, and EVT.

I'm going to be installing Debian/GNU Linux on an older Laptop and I was wondering if ActiveSync will run under Wine, and more importantly will the Embedded Visual Tools (eVB and eVC++, 3.0) as well as the PPC emulator, run under Wine? I am asking this before I partition my Laptop's HD, so I will know if I need to set up a dual boot system to run Windows as well, or if I can just install Linux and run these programs under Wine.

I think VMware would be a much better solution.

I second that. The emulator is pretty messy with all its integration with WinNT, and I don't think it has any chance working under wine.

BTW, it's Debian GNU/Linux, not Debian/GNU Linux.

Ok, I'll just install Windows and Linux, then. Now if I can only find someone with a Windows 2000 CD. I have an XP Home edition and Pro edition CD, but I don't really want to install XP on a 800MHz Laptop, because XP would really bog it down.

Just a quick point TechMage, but WinXP Pro runs fine on my Celeron 466 Laptop, Win2K and XP are very simelar. (in terms of system specs) As long as you have 128Mb RAM and 1.5Gb Hard Disk space, you'll be fine.

I was running WinXP Pro on a PIII 750 for ages with no probs.

I got a fine product from a listing that I've been told about. It's called Crossover Office, from Codeweavers. You can run pretty much any famous Microsoft Software in Linux or Solaris, And I think the programs you're looking for might be there or can be arranged, with out any Microsoft OS license costs. It lets you install some windows applications as Linux programs. It could suite your needs. It runs faster and seems worth it, as of people who told me they tried it, if you're willing to buy the Cd-roms.
