Brian's number are probably 5-8 times too low... for sales with one game on one platform. If your game runs on a Palm, PPC and several phones (say 6 total devices) then his numbers are 30 to 48 times too low. If you have 3 games, then the numbers are 90 to 144 times too low. Figure it this way and his $100 a month seller is really $9000 a month.
I think the 'mobile market' works much differently than the PC or console market. You need to have more mass-market type games and have them on many, many more platforms. In addition, more effort needs to be expended in advertising and distribution. PC and console gamers know where to get games. Your average PDA or phone owner may have no idea what games exists, much less know where to get them.
Hopefully the effort Nokia expended during the Nokia Sugar Bowl will let people know that interesting games are available on phones. People just don't realize what is available. Example: at a XMas party someone asked me what I did, which in part, is write games for PDAs and phones. Their reply was... "Oh, like Snake". My reply was, "No, like Virutal Pool" I showed it to them and they were amazed that it could run on their PDA. They simply had no idea that his PDA could play games like that.
I think you need more games, on more platforms with more advertising to be successful. Unfortunately, this is quite hard for the indie or small developer. I am afraid that *when* the mobile market picks up steam, it will follow the same rules that we all hate in today's PC and console market. Of course, if you can make a name for yourself now... you stand a chance of getting more favorable terms when the EA's of the world move in. :)
