So, when is the first ppc sporting one of these bad boys expected to come out?

Wow, this sucker is compatible with the PALM OS. Just think, the gpu would be faster than the device itself.

is it just me or does this card in PPC seem pretty pointless? PPC is quite a speedy little device and with an ARM processor I don't see much use for something like that. PPC can handle 2d graphic by itself pretty well, with a "standarized" doublebuffering support and the same double buffer organization over the whole line of devices you could get away easily without this videocard thingy. Even "as is" PPC doesn't seem to get tired unless you really pack it with a lot of sprites and using some special effects (lighting over sprites etc) would still need pretty much assistence from CPU itself so this graphic card would mostly give little help. What a PPC really needs is a 3d graphic card so we can have some decent 3d games running with good fps rates (24+)
and if it would work with Palm.. hehe, yup, that would be something:)
With best regards,

I have to disagree with you. What we need is a math coprocessor that can handle floating point math fluently (no emulation). Now that would add the fps to quake.

I would also prefer to see a coprocessor. However, if the hardware supported 3D rendering then the floating point would be a much smaller issue, because the rendering would be performed directly by the hardware. So a large improvement in performance would be seen in either case. What Chris is talking about won't help PQ / PQ2. :)

Dan East

the only real use i can find for this chip is the fact that it has mpeg decoding, that will definitly create a vast improvement in speed of playing movies. Pocket TV would probably be able to run videos at a smooth 30+ fps even when encoded in upwards of 1000kbps. THis would be very nice considering now on my e-125 i have to encode it in 240x144 at like 240kbps to get smooth playback.
From you friend,
Chuck
