PocketGamer.org Video Section / Free advertising

Postby David Horn » May 7, 2004 @ 5:48pm

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for some more videos for the PocketGamer video listings. (). Basically, it's designed to bridge the gap between looking at screenshots and taking the hassle to download and install a demo. It's completely free (we do the hosting) and if you send a video it can be up and running within hours.

If you want to have a video, please ensure that it's in WMV format, approximately 30 seconds long, and no larger than about 1.5MB. Please send it to david@pocketgamer.org, or email me a link that it can be downloaded from.

Also, I'd like to offer some free advertising to developers - on the condition that they could add a PocketGamer.org splash screen to their game demos - I've attached a sample below this post. I can give you 10,000 impressions on the top banner ad in return. Again, please email me at david@pocketgamer.org if you're interested.

Thanks!

Hi, all. David pointed me here to give some info about capturing video.

First, here's some useful software:

: free microsoft software

: Linux based media encoder, works great for making DivX.

: a commercial tool for ripping video directly from a window.

In the case of videos I've made for my software, as the developer I have the ultimate flexibility. So for my videos I modified the game's code to fix the game's frame rate to the rate of the video I wanted (I think I used 15fps). Then I just exported each frame as the game executed. Another thing that simplifies matters is that I do all the development on a desktop computer so there are no concerns about filling up the device with video data because I'm running the app natively on the desktop.

Then I simply used the Windows Media Encoder to put the frames together and export to WMA so that I could integrate the video directly into the browser.

I'm not sure if it's possible to rip from the emulator. Has anyone tried that CEview program that lets to you view whats on your PPC screen on your desktop and then grab the frames off of that program?

Hope this Helps,
D
