Orange "Code Camp"

Orange "Code Camp"

Postby Chris Edwards » Mar 11, 2005 @ 6:41pm

I just got word from Orange that they're running their Orange "Code Camp" in Florida from April 18-20. It sounds like it'd be a great event to attend for developers working with mobiles.

I've requested some additional information on how much they'll be focusing on the Windows Mobile platform, and I'll post that as soon as I get it (should be Monday). [update: posted an update after this post]

Orange Partner is our global programme for developers and is running an intensive three-day "Code Camp" from 18-20 April in Sarasota, Florida, where developers will "live and breath coding 24 hours a day". This event in Sarasota follows on from a very successful Code Camp in Poiters, France last September.

Any developer that registers with Orange Partner at www.orangepartner.com can apply to attend the event - although places are limited and going fast. There will also be a developer competition running at Code Camp - the top prize for which is a Segway Human Transporter - details are here - http://www.orangepartner.com/site/enuk/ ... .jsp#prize

General details on the event in Sarasota are available at http://www.orangepartner.com/site/enuk/ ... rasota.jsp

You can also see a video of what the previous Code Camp in France was like at http://www.orangepartner.com/site/enuk/ ... e_camp.jsp.

Further details on Code camp

Code Camp US will take place in Sarasota, Florida between 18-20 April. To register or for further information, please go to www.orangepartner.com.

Code Camp is an intensive 3 day camp, where Orange Partner members live and breathe 'development and coding' 24hrs a day. In April, at the Sun 'n' Fun resort in Florida, (complete with full camping facilities, individual cabins, golf carts for transportation and a swimming pool), we invite you to join us to:

* test products against the live networks
* learn about and fully understand the Orange mobile product requirements in the markets in which we operate
* discover the Orange distribution channels that are available for commercialisation of your products
* learn about development, testing, certification and validation requirements from the various Operating Systems and Orange

* Show us your products face-to-face

But it's not all work and no-play. Over the 3 days there will be many opportunities to network with friends and colleagues and let your hair down by the pool, in the fun and games area, or in the chill-out rooms. Let's not forget the parties with free food and drinks and live entertainment, to complete the authentic camping experience.

How much does it cost?

You will pay only US$249.00 to attend the 3 days.

This includes all accommodation (cabins on the campsite), food and drink, attendance at all the sessions, workshops and presentations, full use of the facilities, and as much technical support you require - the fun comes for free!

I just got word back from Orange that Microsoft is a gold sponsor of the event. So there will be a strong focus on MS Mobile developing.

Here is some of the program information available on their website. Apparently there will also be a few more sessions that aren't mentioned:

"Also on Tuesday there will be two additional Microsoft sessions in the 'operating systems and execution environments' track, followed by a repeat of one of them on Wednesday."

Microsoft Windows Mobile 101

Learn what it takes to develop products for Windows Mobile based phones such as the Orange SPV, discuss tools and resources available to developers from MS, does Orange fully support MS Mobile 2 Market?
Are you new to Microsoft's Mobile platform and development tools? What is Windows Mobile? What's Microsoft's strategy and view of Mobile platforms? What types of application can I build for Windows Mobile? How can I build them? Deploy them? Where is Microsoft going with the platform?

All these questions will be answered in this informative session.

Workshops:

Passing Microsoft Mobile 2 Market

Learn about Microsoft Mobile 2 Market and how Orange support this initiative

Open Mobile Platforms for your Applications

Discover and discuss the strengths and main challenges of open source platforms and the opportunities each of them provide to developers.
Learn about more than just open source. With 1.5 billion wireless subscribers, nearly half of these devices will have an open mobile platform, allowing application developers like you to feed mobile subscribers with innovative services.

But these platforms have different backgrounds, maturity levels, and support in the industry. This session will focus on the strengths and main challenges of these platforms and the opportunities each of them provide to developers.
