make my ipag safe?

make my ipag safe?

Postby mago » Feb 22, 2002 @ 9:12am

i want to make my compaq ipaq a more secure machine. so i read a few of documents in the subject and it said in a few of them that you could set the second bit of the ROMFLAGS in the Config.bib file to "1".
what i wonder is how can i do that?
can i still have my ppc2k2 running after the configuration?

have also read that you can set restrictions on modules that the system loads.
how do i manage to do this?
can i do it on software basis or how "deep" how i have to go?

or does anyone have some other suggestions about how to secure my ipaq (or other ce devices) or any good litterature about the subject??

i know that there are some 3rd party product as PDADefense, Sentry2020,
F-Secure..but havn't tried them yet. but maybe i will.

Securing an iPAQ... = dump Windows and put Linux on it.

There are 2 realms of security with portable devices. The first is to protect against virii and other software attacks (including attacks over a network).

The other area of security is preventing someone from accessing information on your device if they have physical access to it (like if you've lost it).

Which are you interested in? It sounds like the former, which at this time, there are no known virii, etc, targetting the Pocket PC OS.

what i really is after is to know
what kind of stuff can you do to
protect your device.

like is there ways to protect individual
processes or individual files and stuff?

but the primary scenario is to protect my
information if the device gets stolen.
and hopefully without including a 3rd part
product like sentry2020 or f-secure filecrypto..
