Conan, the distortion band, you mean a dim area? That is supposed to be there, it's a region dim function that's being tested. The heart should also be dimmed when it goes down there.
No red letters, we're talking about on the Max FPS Test screen, right? That worries me a great deal if that's indeed the case. Looks like I'm going to have to invest in a real iPaq soon. Argh.
Thanks very much!

Digby, you say the last three show serious tearing. You are referring to the Flood fill, Region functions and Palette manipulations screens? I am aware of tearing on the Flood file and Palette manipulations screens, they are OK at this point, but could you describe the tearing on the Region functions screen because I don't see them on my device at all.
But if you meant the Max FPS Test screen showing tearing, is it on anything other than the background? On my Casio I see some very slight tearing on the background, everything else looks fine.
None of this is double-buffered yet anyway, so I expect some tearing in general, I'm just curious as to what exactly you are seeing.
Thanks again!

In the MAX FPS screen the text flickers so bad I can't really read it. I think I'm seeing 45 - 47
With no screenshot to send here's a description of what I see:-
4 sprites, a sparkly ball, a red heart a globe with light effects and a shape. There's a pacman style border & inner square plus 4 sets of white readout numbers at the bottom
There may be a hint of red top right on the screen?

OK, I just ran the Max FPS Test. The text is hard to read but it seems to vary from 42..45.
The red letters are really hard to see but they are near the top right of the Max FPS Test screen. You have to hold the stylus on a letter for a while, then lift it up. If you click on it quickly it will exit the test.
On my iPaq all the tests run at a solid 47, until I add the background then it drops to ~45 or so.

Hi,
Test machine: iPaq 3660, 64Mb, PPC2000
Lines: 47
Circles: 47
Polygons <non-filled>: 47
Polygons: <filled>: 45 to 47
Flood Fill: 47
Region functions: 31
Palette manipulations: 47
Max FPS Test: 43 to 45
1) Region functions test has a dim strobing band in the bottom 1/4 of disply.
2) Palette manipulation test has tearing, but as you say it's not double buffered yet.
3) Max FPS test flickers a lot, text hard to read but there with four red letters (S,W,B,T) in top right corner that is almost impossible to see. Pressing stylus on 'B' for few seconds causes background to stop scrolling and the flickering stops. Other letters toggle sprites, walls?, and text on/off.
Hope this helps

This is very dismaying... I didn't expect to hear any problems on iPaq's. I know how this runs on my Casio, which is pretty well, even without real optimizing or double-buffering, but now I guess I'm going to have to go buy an iPaq and figure out what's up there. Thanks to everyone that has tried it, I appreciate it greatly!
