Haim Barad (Intel) gave a presentation at SIGGRAPH a week or so ago about performance optimizations for handheld devices. The PowerPoint slide presentation from his talk can be found .

For those of you without PowerPoint, you can get a free PowerPoint viewer from Microsoft's web site .
Wow. That's really cool. So Intel recognises the problems developers are facing and actually doing something.

Did I read something incorrectly, or were they talking about 1 gHz embedded processors?

The optimisation stuff was pretty cool. But how many people can actually code for the StrongARM in ASM? (besides Digby)

I assume they actually showed stuff from Fathammer on a PPC. That would be cool to see.

Fixed Point CS. 5 Megs large and it looks like the big one. You can even play it over the net. He also made an utily to tweak the infra red port. now you have an angle of 90° and it reaches about 20 meters...

Nah, I'm just an engineer who likes to tinker with things and see how they work. I'm kinda new to this Pocket PC thing and I think it's kinda cool that there are a number of sharp people here throwing around ideas and working on different projects. I like to contribute when I can.

Coding for Pocket PC devices takes me back 15 years or so when there was no 3D hardware and you did everything in software. I learned a lot of tricks back then that have been shelved for 5 or 6 years since 3D accelerators came out for the PC. It's kinda fun to revisit that stuff and see how it runs on my iPaq.

I've never seen, nor played CounterStrike. I hear it's pretty popular though. I've played a lot of Tribes and Tribes2, but most of what I play is single player games. I'm really looking fwd to Argentum. I'll definitely pull out my checkbook for that one.
