QUAKE 3 game source?

QUAKE 3 game source?

Postby Anon » Dec 29, 2001 @ 11:32pm

I am just wondering if it will be legal to try to port quake 3 arena to PPC, since ID has made the source code of the game avalable. In the license agreement I did not find anything that will restrict making modifications to the original code.<br><br>Here is the code:<br>ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quake3/source/q3agamesource_117.exe<br><br>And this is what it said in the user agreement:<br><br>"ID grants to you the non-exclusive and limited right to distribute copies of the Software.. and limited right to use the Software to create your own modifications (the “New Creations”)..."

First of all there is no way q3 will ever run on todays ppc's considering it needs a fast openGL complient video card wich a ppc does not have. Second that is not the game source it is just the source to compile the .QVM (Quake Virtual machine), the qvm file is what mod makers use to make mods for q3 just like gamex86.ddl is to q2 and progs.dat is to quake1. Also that is a really old relase of the qvm source the newest is like 1.28g or something. I hope this clears up the confusion.
