Question about custom maps. (again)

Question about custom maps. (again)

Postby Diego Cueva » Apr 18, 2001 @ 4:27am

Sorry for my poor english (yeah, you know that I´m not North American) ;)

--Yeah, I know, you all are tired of reading posts like this, but please, help me. First of all, the way I use PQ in my iPAQ is different. I don´t have the 2 different PAKS in my PPC. What I did was to copy the "pop.???" file from the pak1 to the gfx directory in the pak0. Then, I deleted some maps and gzipped it again. It works fine and only takes 5mb in my device... Now, the problem is that I can´t use the custom maps... Do I really need to have both paks? Did I miss something? (probably yes...)

Oh,by the way, Dan, the new .06 beta is great! :)

Thanks,
Diego Cueva

Last modification: Diego Cueva - 04/18/01 at 01:27:38

You need to put custom maps in \Quake\ID1\maps folder. Just in case, put 'Registered 1' in your autoexec.cfg...

I wouldn't put the pop.lmp in Pak0 actually, I'd make a new folder under ID1 called 'gfx' and put it in there (I just have a Pak1.Pak anyway)
Last modification: Paul - 04/18/01 at 01:34:48

I´m probably missing something. I mean, I know that I need to have the maps folder. But, I really would like to have only the PAK0 on my iPAQ. If you could give some more help about custom maps I would appreciate. Oh, and I tried putting the "registered 1" command in the .cfg file too.

Thanks,
Diego CuevaLast modification: Diego Cueva - 04/18/01 at 01:45:06
Last modification: Diego Cueva - 04/18/01 at 01:46:51

I don't recall all the funky stuff that happens when trying different things with the PAK files. It's documented around here somewhere.

If Pauls technique doesn't work, try dumping EVERYTHING from PAK1.PAK except for /gfx/pop/lmp.

There are certain BSP files that are required, since they are models (not maps like most BSPs). These "b" models start with "b_", as in b_nail0.bsp. These are the typical ammo boxes, health and stuff like that.

I still don't use a PAK file at all. All my files are displayed out in the open for the world to see.

It does take a little more space this way, though.

I should try dumping everything from the pak1 except for the pop and the bsp files? But I don´t have an PAK1 file! If the BSP files in the PAK1 are important, why can I still play the game and use weapons boxes, etc on it? I´m confused... I think I should edit the PAK1 that I have in my PC and let only the pop file on it... What do you think?

Diego Cueva

Incredible. In the same post you say "I don´t have an PAK1 file!" then you say "the PAK1 that I have in my PC"... You do have Quake, right?

I don´t have PAK1 in my PPC. I have it in my PC. As I said, I put the pop (from PAK1) in the gfx folder in the PAK0
Last modification: Diego Cueva - 04/18/01 at 02:07:32
