iPAQ muliplayer game

iPAQ muliplayer game

Postby Peter Siljerud » Aug 29, 2001 @ 11:56am

How do I set up a multiplayer game on two iPAQs? They are both connected to the Internet via WLAN-cards. Or I can connect them peer-to-peer also. Do I need some kind of external Quake server to do this? If not, what Hostname and IP-address am I supposed to enter? If I make a search for local games the other iPAQ is not recognized. Any clues to get things started would be appreciated.

Whatever IP address you assigned the iPaqs to when you set up the LAN... Or you could use WinQuake on your PC as the dedicated host machine and connect to it. That should be a whole lot easier, and it should run a whole lot faster.

Ok, thanks for the help. I've got multiplayer Quake up and running now with a PC acting as the server and then two iPAQs with Wireless LAN connections. Good fun, except that it's much more difficult to win with the iPQAs...

Were there any special steps that need to be taken aside from the setup of the LAN?

No, I installed the WLAN drivers on the iPAQ and connected them to the LAN where the PC was. You just start the game from the PC and choose join game from the iPAQs. Then you select search for servers and the PC Quake server is detected.

I also made a peer-to-peer connection where I left out the WLAN access point and instead connected one iPAQ the PC directly. This worked just fine, the drawback of course is that there can be only one iPAQ. Still it's great for demo purposes.

PQ uses TCP/IP. And I think you can start a multiplayer game on PPC.
