Cannot Start Game

Postby Lawfull » Feb 21, 2002 @ 7:47pm

If anyone can help...

I have a new HP Jornada 568 running WinCE 3.0 w/ a StrongArm processor(PocketPC) and have installed the proper files into the proper location for the Quake I game (PocketQuake0062_ARM).

I have the pak0.pak extracted for speed (1 level 17.8 megs) in the CE root dir /quake/ID1 with the autoexec.cjg and the exe file in my games file.

Demo and shell and sound start fine, can access the menu by clicking on the screen but cant scroll or record cuz Jornada does not have roller on left side. It has up and down buttons and rec button on left side that wont work. And none of the other buttons work either. Only on-screen clicks.

Any help would be appriciated...

I have pushed all available buttons. Nothing works.

Can anyone tell me if this game is supported by the Jornada? Does anyone play this game on the new Jornada sucessfully? It has the same specs as the newest iPAQ just slightly diffrent buttons?

Can you press straight in on the Directional Pad for "Action" like with the iPaq?

For Heaven's sake, just push the rolly button on the left side of the device in. Don't roll it up, don't roll it down, push the thing INTO the device.
Was that hard, Shape? Dan?

Thanks for the attitude Moose, we're all not as stupid as you think we are... now read carefully..

I DONT HAVE AN IPAQ! NO ROLLER BUTTON ON LEFT! CANT ROLL UP, CANT ROLL DOWN!

But thanks for the sarcasm Moose, much appriciated.

Anyone with any experience playing this game with the new JORNADA (no scrolly buttons) any help would be appriciated...

I wasn't talking to you before Lawfull. I'm pretty sure the scrolly wheel is standard on all PocketPC's, but try pushing the button directly under your directional pad, it should have a horizontal line on it, if you can't find the scrolly wheel on the left side of the device. It should do the same thing.

Hahaha... Your amazing man! Whats your hang up with this darm scrolly wheel?! Fine, here...

"Your right Moose, I found the scrolly wheel, works GREAT now!, thanks!!"

Now, for anyone else not giving generic help on how to push non-existent buttons and with any insight or experience with a Jornada 56X series, any help would be appriciated.

This isnt my first purchase and I am not an idiot. I am specifically seeking insite from someone who has played the game on a Jornada.

HAS ANYONE SUCESSFULLY PLAYED THIS GAME ON A JORNADA 56X?

Thanks,
Law

(Makes me wonder if this game is worth it :(

Lawful only has the second L, not a third, BTW.

It's interesting why people buy the inferior hardware at a greater expense. I guess that's why Palm's are still around. The iPaq is better in every way to the Jornada, but alas...

If you'd like to expediate the conversation to your fine device, you may wish to download the application called and post the results of the file in this thread. It will reveal the address of all the hardware buttons and the configuration of the screen through which your device displays its output.

Thank you kindly for your cooperation.

Sincerely,
MooseMaster

Ohhh please... I'm not gonna argue. Pull up the specs, they speak for themselves. Atari is still around to, you gonna trade in your PS2 for it?

Ps...

I am aware the word lawful has 2 l's. Lawfull is used as a moniker or proper name, (notice the use of a capital "L"). But I ume you correct everybody's moniker, IE: There is a space between Moose and Master... Think there might be a personal reason for the 3rd L, DumbA$$.

I would expect more from a geek who uses the word "alas".... Good one Shakespeare!!!

Yes, the specs do speak for themselves. The iPaq has the same CPU, the same screen, but more expansion and built in bluetooth, along with a nice rolly wheel on the left side. The Jornada, has lesser everything, including only CF Type I expansion.

I'm sorry I'm well versed in the classics, Lawless. I took the reference to me being similar to Shakespeare as a high compliment, so thank you.

You're really clever substituting the S's in ass with dollar signs so you really didn't have to actually type "dumbass." I hope that makes you feel slightly more innocent ... or something.

And resorting to name calling won't alleviate you of your problem any sooner. I was actually trying to help you, but you have to reply like a jack ass to everything I say. If you'd download the small program I told you of, with hyperlink included, then I could have modified PocketQuake and compiled it for your Jornada. Unfortunately, you chose to burn bridges instead. You'll get nowhere fast with that approach, so please revise your attitude before posting again. I may then be compelled to help again, although you still may rightfully feel that no one here can help you with your problems.
