I agree about id games seeming unfinished. They started out as shareware, and it seems id hasn't quite moved out of that yet. I don't like games where you can determine what the entire game looks and plays like with one level.<br>That said, I think Doom was by far id's greatest game (I am a regular at
www.doomworld.com). It always struck me as nothing more than a first-person Gauntlet in hell (all you did was kill monsters, run around in mazes, and find keys in maps that were essentially 2D), but that was part of its charm. I don't think Doom3 will be nearly as good, simply because Carmack doesn't make games, he makes engines (with a "demo game" attached, such as Quake II), but I don't worry about it, since Doom still has quite a devoted following (and some of the ports let Doom do everything Quake can do, such as 3D maps, 3D monsters, jumping, swimming, etc.). Quake is great because of its addon levels, to me. But there are some damn good ones out there.<br>Oh, and Dan, when Doom3 comes out, do you want to port that to the iPAQ?
