I'd delete that but 999 was here first and didn't think it was causing much trouble.

Ultima Underworld was a much better game than Wolfenstein3D. It had graphics similar to Doom2, with Jumping, Water, Lightmaps, and more 7 months before WOLF3D was even released. That game kicks ass. Wolf wasn't even the first 3D game. UW wasn't either. Some miserable Amiga or Apple (forget which) was the first. But UW was the only good first 3D game.

Come on! This game is so awesome! And it would be smaller files then quake.<br>Would some sort of compensation change minds??

Without the source code, don't plan on anything to happen. Desigining an engine isn't just "reading files" or showing pretty pictures. Displying the "pictures" is the easy part, as long as you can figure out the headers. Displaying them correctly is entirely different.<br><br>If I remember correctly, Syndicate Wars was an isoometric view.<br><br>Last modification: randall - 03/22/01 at 12:18:47

And it would run A LOT faster than Quake! Quake = choppy, Wolfenstein = smooth

Wolfenstein doesn't even have slanted walls. You could barely see the enemies. I think it's a bad idea for the tons of work it would take. Porting a game isn't as easy as downloading the source then compiling it for a PocketPC. If you want it so bad, you get teh tools and the source. Both are free. in the mean time quit whining about it. If you're not willing to do it yourself don't expect others to do it for you.

Not only did it not have slanted walls, it didn't have varying height either. Everything was "ground floor".<br><br>Very primitive, but I remember when I first saw it running on a 386 (it required a 286) I was amazed at the "real time" 3D rendering with texture mapping and the remarkably high FPS- it didn't even stutter.<br><br>It would be nice to see Wolfenstein on PPC just for the historic value. It will take a special person to take on the project for nostalgic reasons.<br><br>

Lets not forget each wall in Wolfenstien was about 8ft thick.<br><br>As their code got better, their walls got thinner, i.e. DOOM.<br><br>

LOL, in Doom if you were playing a newbie map, the walls were PAPER thin.<br><br>They were so damn thin they only had one side.~<br><br>You gotta love the blockyness of Wolfenstein though. What was the highest resolution supported? It was 320x240 256-color nazi-blastin' fun.<br><br>Anyone played the original "Castle Wolfenstein"? I played it on Apple (IIe?) eons ago, and it wasn't 3D. It was more like Robotron (remember THAT one?)<br>

I have the orginial 1989 (or around then) Wolfenstein and still have the package (the front of the box is the opening screen of the game, Blokivitz on a wall with a pistol ready to shoot a nazi). I also have ALL 3 Spears of Destiny and Wolfenstein 3D. Come on Randall, you know you want to make Wolfenstein 3D for PPC. I mean, what would you rather kill? A creature in Doom or Quake for no reason, or tons of nazis? Because I am Jewish, this answer is quite easy. Wolfenstein is and always will be the greatest game of all time.

I have the original boxes, disks and books for Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny too! I don't know how old they are, though. Wolfenstein is on Floppy, so it must be fairly old. When was the last time they sold games on floppy?<br><br>Matter of fact, I have id software' boxes lined up in chronological order. Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake, Quake II. I didn't buy Quake III because I didn't care much for the gameplay- I favor UT. I guess I'll buy it eventually to complete the collection.<br><br>

Hmm, I was thinking, with all the "extra" horsepower from having so little to render, maybe a software MIDI synthesizer would be possible. I've been reading up on FM synthesis and it looks fairly straightfoward and not very processor intensive. Ugh. I wish I could code for real. :(

Too bad PPCs don't have a mic input. Plugging in intruments would be kinda cool. A guitar synthesizer/effects pedal built into a PocketPC!<br><br>Realtime effects are surprisingly CPU/RAM intensive though. Or maybe every application I have tried was just written badly.
