Gotta make this work

Re: Gotta make this work

Okay, you have on your device:
\quake\id1\pak0.pak.gz

You know it is not really:
\quake\id1\pak0.pak.gz.zip

You also know it is in the root directory of your Pocket PC, and not in My Documents. If you go into Mobile Device on your PC you are actually in the My Documents folder of your Pocket PC. You have to go into Mobile Device\My Pocket PC to get to the root directory.

Dan East

Then the file is corrupted. Have you copied the file to your device more than once? It appears corruption sometimes occurs when copying large files over ActiveSync. Is the file complete? Does the file size on your Pocket PC match that of the file on your PC?

Dan East

Okay, that's your problem. Don't put it in program files, it must be in the ROOT directory:
\Mobile Device\My Pocket PC\Quake\ID1\pak0.pak.gz

Dan East

Okay, one of the following things must be wrong:

The pak0.pak.gz file is in the wrong place.

The file has not be decompressed once, so it is still zipped.

The pak0 file's extension has been manually changed and does not match its actual type.

The file has been corrupted or truncated.

All I can suggest is to redownload the file from this website and try again.

Dan East

Just so you know, you don't have to create the Mobile Device and My Pocket PC directories. You could just say the root directory, Dan. It should be \quake\ID1. But Dan has it under control. Just thought that might have been a misunderstanding.

Yeah, I see what you mean Moose. He replied with that syntax before, and I didn't think he actually created those directories.

Okay, let's try something else. On your desktop PC open up the Windows Explorer. You can look for it in your start menu, or hold down the Window key (to the left of your space bar) and press E simultaneously.

You should see a little icon in the tree on the left for Mobile Device. Here's a picture to show you how the directories should be organized:
http://www.pocketmatrix.com/pocketquake/pqexplorer.gif

The pak0.pak.gz should be placed in the ID1 directory.

Dan East

Your problem is that you forgot to create
the ID1 subdirectory and move the pak file
into there.

Ok... In windows, change your settings so you can see file extensions. Get the Pak, its called Pak0.Pak.gz.zip because its in a zip file, so unzip it - the file should now be Pak0.Pak.gz, put this in the folder Dan told you to: ... thats ID1!!! That should work. If it doesnt your pak file must be corrupted...

Ok, try a different thing: Tell us exactly what you did to install it. Step by step. By the way, you copied the autoexec.cfg to the id1 folder, right?

Diego Cueva
