i don't believe its completely possible with the current hardware, but with the new 400-500 mhz systems coming out i believe it will be done. But  i don't wanna buy a new ppc yet :(

Well, I couldn't find and solid facts to base this on, so be warned. It appears the max bandwidth of CompactFlash is 8 MB/sec. Assuming they mean 8 million bytes instead of 8 megabytes, if I divide that by the amount of memory needed for a 320x240x16-bit display the result is just over 52 frames per second.<br><br>That sounds great since i don't think any actually refresh higher than 30 HZ. (At 30 FPS the bandwisth needed would be ~4.6 mB/sec.) They almost did it with the Casio CF camera add-on so, technically, it could be possible to cram the video into a PPC. As for seeing Quake3 on a PPC, well, how long was it between Quake's release and the release of its source code?

I dont think anyone should be knocking the idea that Quake3 might be running on a PDA someday. I can list quite a few people who laughed when someone mentioned running Quake on a PDA and look where we are. Also I agree the Q3 engine is excellent however the game is very unispired but I can name 2 games coming out using the Quake 3 engine that are TOTALY worth drooling over. Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Medal of Honor Allied Assault.

yes it is possible, but highly unlikely on current hardware. They can't convert the code unless its released. Maybe if the software company compiled there own Pocket QUake 3 ...

Yeah, I can't wait to see some other games using the Q3 engine. FAKK2 was among the first to use the Q3 engine. Combined with SinScript it was a pretty amazing game with quite a lot of versatility. Unfortunately multiplayer was lacking (at first).<br><br>Has anyone seen the new Doom engine? WOW! I downloaded a movie with John Carmack showing off the new Doom technology running on the upcoming GEFORCE3.<br><br>Shadows are drawn "per-pixel", even on animated models. It is simply astounding. It's quite a hefty download though.<br><br>Another badass game is Metal Gear Solid 2. OMFG. I have only played the demo for PS2 and downloaded a HUGE 100 meg movie. I would kill for a game like that on a PDA- forget Q3.

Where'd you get a playable demo of MGS2?  I guess I haven't been looking hard enough.  And yes, that game looks f'in amazing.... good ol' hideo kojima, gotta love him.  I don't really need a 100MB movie, since I have the 10 minute intro/otherstuff movie on a PS disc. <drool> 8)

Why does everyone want the worst console gaming system in history? My local Target got in 3 or 4 and I was seriously tempted to sell them off eBay for a couple thou each. Doesn't everyone realise that that system will crash within a year. Mark my words! I'm warning you. It's an impossible white paper gaming system, not a real world power house.

Jaybot, the 10 minute movie IS the 100 meg movie. Pretty amazing. The MSG2 playable demo isn't easy to get- especially since it is only for Playstation 2 (so far). There are a couple ways to get it:<br><br>1. Beg your friend at the local PS2 retailer.<br><br>2. Find a pirated copy on the internet which means you'll have to burn a CD (have Chuck help you with this one)<br><br>3. Buy a game that includes the playable demo. Sorry I can't remember the title of the game that includes this.<br><br>Moose, what do you have against Playstation 2? We have had ours since early December- we didn't have any difficulty getting it since a friend notified us they were in stock.

I said it was faster than the MIPS devices at floating point math. However, compared to integer math, it does floating point calculations extremely slow. MIPS devices do them even slower.<br><br>Dan East
