Pocket Quake II?

But randall, I'm pretty sure you had some kind of graphics cards. Even a 2D one accelerates graphics with it's RAMDAC (or some other device that makes it sound like I know what I'm talking about). <br>Now Duke Nukem 3D would be an excellent candidate for conversion. It uses an engine very similar to Doom, so speed would be good. But it has all the great 3D gameplay of Quake, plus gameplay that is slightly more than Shoot and open door.

The problem with Duke3D is that the source code isn't available.

I've never owned an accelerator card until just recently (about six months ago). I've been runnning everything in software mode. <br><br>This is [mostly] because I've been using laptops for the last 5 years. Laptops haven't even had 3d graphic accelerators until recently and they steal the RAM from the mainboard.<br><br>Duke used a modified Doom engine. (wow. lookit those sprites dance!)

It's over four years old. I've got the shareware on a classic games CD, I'll look up the company, as I can't remember.

While we are off of the PocketQuake topic, what about a simcityCE? is that possible (i ran it on a 386), or even simcity2000 (486)

I was on the www.3drealms.com website and they had a disclaimer on their forums, that any ideas/posts become their property.  I dont want to start asking about it there, as then they might do it and charge $50 US for it.  :)

SimCity2k would also be a real possibility.

The problem with SimCity is the fact that french company Atelier owns the rights for a Windows CE conversion. They have already made a Palm version, and rumors has it that they had a Windows CE 2.11 version ready for distribution - but for some kind of money reason decided not to release it...<br><br>http://www.ateliersoftware.com/

They seem only to have software for palm or epoc systems.  I wrote them to see if they actually do have a game in the works.  We need more games like p quake for the pocketpc. :)

Halflife is a heavily modified Quake engine. The most significant change (visually) was the switch from Quakes bland 8-bit palette to a 16-bit color.<br><br>This is why alot of people think it is Quake II engine instead of the old Quake engine.<br><br>About 70% of the Quake code was modified. Impressive end result to say the least, especially since it is an overall better engine than Quake II.<br><br>Regardless, getting it to run on the currrent PPCs isn't yet feasible.<br><br>Last modification: randall - 03/25/01 at 01:52:34
