*ahem*.. Port to linux!!!! :)

MessiahXI: I find the controls on pocket quake I fine. A few more fps would be nice, but other than that it's great!

"hardly a palm killer" eh?
Palm's already dead. And they're spending their last bit of funds advertising on our site :).
Just a thought:
When I was running a Q2 Server on my 486 I didn't have room for the huge pak files.

Cut down the pak files to just the items and things, then just extract each map seperately. So you can fit two or three maps at a time.

This worked on the 486, because it was just a network server, so I didn't care about a whole lot of maps. If you go with the classics, "the edge", then someone will always want to play.

Good work!
-dilw33d

The controls on Quake suck? It was hardly playable? Its not a palm killer? Are you playing the game blindfolded? The controls are smooth and fine, and it runs just fine on my ipaq. Maybe you need to invest in a better device or learn how to use yours. As for Palm..they are filing for bankrupcy so I don't need to say anymore about that. Now I am a little worried of the speed of Quake 2 on a PPC, if its gunna be a slideshow than its not worth Dans time. Also Dan how many ports are you gunna take on? I mean dont get me wrong its awesome, but wouldnt it be better to have a couple of ports running decently than a lot of ports running crappy? You didnt even give yourself a chance to finish wolf. Also as far as I can remember...the bots for Quake 2 all needed to be launched from a launcher in windows, so there was no way to launch them "in game" which means that wont work on this port?

Bots for Q2, indeed any kind of add-on, are going to be a major pain in this incarnation because they were compiled .dll files. Ouch.

Just a quick note on the shareware pak file. It is 48 MB, 25 MB of which is audio files. Those can be hacked right out using a Pak editor, and Quake 2 never complains about not finding them.

Dan East

what kind of a fucking world do you all live in? a fucking tube? ... you all have tunnel vision.

Fuck your current devices, this shit will run smooth as diarrhea when the next gen PocketPCs come out (400+mhz ARM -whoop). And guess who will be way ahead of the game and have the ports already done for you? Dan East.

This allows ample time for these ports to be optimised and tweaked by the time the new devices are launched. And by then Palm will be long dead, not able to keep up with the progression Dan has driven forward.

So here's to the "always looking-to-the-future Dan" who brings you tomorrows games today, not the other way around like other big budget developers.
Thats exactly what I thought when I first heard the news. I now have a solid reason to get a 400+MHz PPC when they come out. Lets just hope its one that can do multi-button press ;)

Dan, once again you have taken a giant step forward in the handheld arena. Now get some sleep and spend some quality time with the family :)

hey man, quake2 on a PPc eh? thats really cool :)

Although there is one small thing that I don't understand... what is this palm vs. ppc thing? would it make anyone happier if Palm died ? (oh wait it IS dead) I (as a palm user) wouldn't get all excited if I heard that PPC were getting extinct or anything... you guys really shouldn't turns this into a flame like linux vs windows vs otherOS...

it's x-mas FFS :)

let's set aside our differences and sing together!

*sing* *sing* *sing*

seeya :D

Well, I was going to say something about Palm vs. Pocket PC. What I was going to say about that was pointless and dumb (not the debate, just my own pathetic statement). Anyways, I don't like Palm.

Thanks, Dan! When I get a job, I will buy your DEXplore program thingy. I own Quake 1, 2, and 3: Arena (I bought 'em all bundled for only $30), so I thank you very much.

Hey, Dan? Did you ask (beg) John Carmack to release the source code? Just wondering...
Die, Palm, Die. If that offended you, then get rid of your Palm OS device.

Someone should work on extracting the audio files from the PAK file and do a batch compression of them.. its not like we need stereo or even half of its current quality...

Matt
