You can't set -game from a CFG file or the CONSOLE. It must be run from the STARTUP command line.

I would just do the same things as we have been doing with the bots- move the PROGS.DAT or any other necessary files into the id1 folder, replacing the originals.

iPaq doesn't need to do this since their startup command line works.

Last modification: randall - 05/10/01 at 18:29:36

Hmm...there is no prog.dat with this bot. you need a folder in the quake dir called "ctf" and put the pak with the levels in that.

And for the bot, it has its own copy of the same pak of levels(and doesnt work without) and its own pak1.pak for whatever. along with multiple .cfg files. this all goes into the folder "ctfbot"

So, how do we get that to work?

one of them, is a renamed config.cfg or whatever... Just open them and the one that looks like a config.cfg is your friend, then copy that over the other... you gett the idea.

id1 is the default folder for everything. So whatever is in there is what Quake assumes to be the default. When you add the "-game CTF" switch you're telling Quake to give priority to whatever is in the CTF folder. Since Mips people can't use the -game switch (the startup command doesn't work), we have to use an alternative method.

Move everything from CTF over to the id1 folder. From then on, you shouldn't have to use the -game switch anymore. Just like the Bots.

If you have an iPaq though, you can use the "-game CTF" switch. That would be the optimal.

Randall, I am going to send you some files containing the ctf map I optimized in a pak0 file, and the files for the bots. So check your mail, and when you get a minute work your magic.

I haven't recieved anything yet. Sounds like fun though- I'm hip to it. I have a few ideas for CTF maps if it is compact enough to run on PPC.

Matt, when you design a map, try to design it for other modes as well. In other words make sure it works well as a Deathmatch and possibly SP. That will increase the life of the map and make it interesting to all types of players.

Last modification: randall - 05/11/01 at 15:33:00

Ok, it took a bit to send but you should have it now. I sent it to the email address you registered to this board with. It is rather small at the moment considering there is only one map in the pak file. It is not g-ziped and I think it weights in at about three mbytes. One possible problem is that it recommends about 16 mb of free memory to run good, but we will see what we can do about that....

Well, so far it's all good news. The files are small enough to put on PPC and I have it working somewhat.

I'm going to mess with it a bit more.

Kick ass. I think I will start a Deathmatch/Single Player/CTF map tonight:) maybe a one week project or so. I think I will base it on the 747 jet from Rouge Spear....but that would be hard...we'll see

Damn. For some weird reason we have two threads dealing with CTF. I posted to the other one by mistake, thinking it was this one.

Anyway, it is real easy to get running. I am just trying to sort out the files. It replaces the player model, which is something I am not sure that I want to do. Not until I figure out if there is going to be serious conflicts with other modes. (SP, Deathmatch, RA)

Geez. I am a complete idiot. I haven't messed with the file structure of Quake in quite a while and forgot a few key things. It's actually far simpler than we made it out to be.

All I had to do was rename the PAK files- I didn't even need to unpack them. The install is alot tidier now.

I renamed the ctfbot pak0.pak file pak2.pak

I also renamed the ctfbot pak1.pak file pak3.pak

I'll put them together into a single pak file so that it's easier to install.

Last modification: randall - 05/12/01 at 02:27:54

I need someone with a MIPS device to see if any command line parameters are working with PQ.
Please try:
-particles 0 and see if no particles are rendered (of course make sure your config file isn't already setting r_maxparticles to 0). Thanks!

Dan East
