Not sure I agree with you there.

PocketPc is a great platform for gaming, and is
more portable than the hpc.

Anyway, doesnt the 690 uses an sh3 processor??
which means it would probably be slower than a mips version.

I myself own a Jornada 720 and would love to see a port (and it uses the same processor as the Ipaq). Just have to wait and see.

John

Hey Niki:

Shhhh... Caps-Lock= SHOUTING on messageboards :)

Additionally, I can see your points regarding gaming on PocketPCs, but if they really weren't fit for gaming, then I don't think we'd see as many emulators as we have thus far, and specifically for PocketPC.

Once Dan is done with his optimizations with the Floating Point issue, he has stated he'll release the Source Code soon after. I'm not certain they will be released simultaneously, but the point is, once that Source is released, anyone "In the know" can port Quake to any device.

I'm interested to see if someone ports it to the Jordana Handheld which has the same CPU as the iPAQ. It sounds totally possible, but then again, I'm no programmer :)

I would like to see PocketQuake for the New @migo(possibly just changing the key mapping around would do the trick) and PocketQuake for the Jornada 720 is a GREAT idea. It'd be justlike the good 'ol days, only on a screen 20% the size.... ;)

it should work on the @migo... you just have to manually bind all the keys...

... yes, of course you want to see PQ for other machines... everyone wants to see PQ for other machines... the 720 would be the easiest, I suppose, because it's got an SA, but aside from that...

hell, I'm surprised all you people are so nice to a newbie (that doesn't happen terribly often :D)

i got an 820. its at 190mhz, and i got the extra 16 mb so overall its a 32 mb RAM model. It could handle PQ, how about a port. As for PPCs, they are better for games because the OS is more stable and efficient. having said that, the only fast one looks crap, only takes one button press and and is always cocking up.
but such is life
rob

Hey,
It looks like I am quite late to be entering this discussion, but I admit, I would like to take quake with me too! I just got my Jornada 690 a month ago (used) and got very excited when I found out that a version of Quake exists out there for handheld devices. I downloaded it, installed it as per the instructions given, only to be dissappointed with an error "Cannot Find PocketQuake or (one of its components)". Based on the little bit of research I am doing now, I see that it is not available for anything less than winCE v3 (I believe I read this in your FAQ section about PocketQuake) and furthermore, my Hpc with win CE v2.11 doesnt support the game API (is that the gx.dll file)? Is that correct? In any case, if there is a way to get it running on my Jornada 690, could somebody please point me in the right direction, cuz I would REALLY, REALLY, REALLY like to create some carnage on my Hpc when I need a break from productivity. Other than that, I would like to ask that mebbe you game writing types would put some type of compatability statement on the same page as the download link cuz it took 1 hr and 15 mins to copy that stinkin' pak file onto my Hpc and to me, that was a waste of time. (Lord only knows how long it will take to delete it so I can install Pocket Doom, which will work based on my research ('cept I want quake cuz I beat doom several times about 9 years ago, just like everyone else)... heh...)

L8r,
BioDred

Me too! Me too! Me too!

Oh please, port PocketQuake to Mips for my e-125. Please... Please... Pleeeeeeeeeeease?

While you're at it, can you port it to Palm and Gameboy as well? It shouldn't be too hard, since they all use CPUs to run the instructions.~

John,

If Pocket Quake is impossible to port over to the Jornanda 720, I would love it if you told me how Leopoldo Bueno Castillo developed such an amazing flight simulator for the 720. Even if the 720 doesn't use the gaming API, he obviously found a way of doing it!! It uses textured bitmaps just like quake, and runs a dream! I ran it on both my 720, and my iPaq 3160 side-by-side and the 720 was smoother, and easier to see all the instruments due to the screen size. My friend told me that this was due to the built-in graphics acceleration in the 720. Maybe this is why iPaq developers (apart from Leo!) are scared to port their creations over to the 720 - it's simply better! If you want to see this software for yourself, click here...

Regards,

Darren.
