PQ on iPAQ with Rom 1.77

I just got a new iPAQ (old one was dusty) and the new unit they sent me had 1.67 rom on it. I flashed it to 1.77 and now when I go into PQ and do a timerefresh on opening level selector it crashes right before its about to finish with error: PQ has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. exception: 0xc00000094 address: 01fdcf80(a square)Fatal<br>is this the rom thats doing this, or is this new ipaq I just got crap. I cant overclock it pas 221 mhz, it craps out. the old one ran fine at 236... arg!!<br>Josh

I cant even play it with the thing underclocked. it locks up the unit after about 2 minutes. there must be something wrong with the 'new' ipaq right?

Pocket Quake is probably just bringing out a problem with your hardware. Unless you play CPU intensive games, like Pocket Quake, then your device will never experience the long-term exertion that brings out sub-standard CPU quality. Try playing another cpu-intensive game (not solitaire ) and see if the same problem occurs.<br><br>Dan East

Compaq says its a problem with your program probably, maybe 'your software is designed for a certian ipaq main board revision'. what a load of crap.. my unit just sux!

Yeah. Actually, when porting Quake, I took my iPaq apart and looked at the mainboard. Only then was I able to figure out how to port Quake, based on the configuration of the chips and their serial and revision numbers. Carpediem did that for MIPS devices too. Oh, I'm also very surprised that PQ runs on iPaqs that do NOT have dust in the screen. Mine does, and it was specifically designed to run only on those types of iPaqs.<br><br>Dan East

LOL.<br><br>Compaq thinks their customers are as stupid as they are. The tech support will say ANYTHING to get you off the line- as long as they don't have to admit it's Compaqs fault.<br><br>I bought TWO Compaq Presario laptops. Based on their lack of support I don't think I'll make that mistake a third time. They won't even supply Win2000 drivers for a Laptop we bought ONE MONTH prior to the Win2000 release.<br><br>I tried to get Windows 2000 to run anyway. It works fine as long as I don't want to use the modem, PCMCIA slots, soundcard, and CDROM.

I printed this forum out and shipped it back with my crappy ipaq for tech support to read. I highlighted all of the important things like "DEFECTIVE HARDWARE" and "COMPAQ TECH SUPPORT SUCKS". maybe they will get the message. =)

It´s a good idea, but I dont think they will care about it, they may give you a new iPAQ, but the company flaws will continue... They just care about money.... bah...
