It depends on the kind of daylight you want to achieve. Quake is severely limited in what it can do- nothing looks realistic.

This is what I have done in all my maps:

Create a sky out of a single brush and apply a sky texture. Put a light completely inside the sky brush. That light will be the sun. Try to use only a single light source in the sky, otherwise shadows tend to go every-which-way and don't look as realistic.

Adjust the brightness- normally 300 or 400 is fine.

Use arghlite to compile the lights, then you can adjust the fade to 0.25 or 0.10. This will make the light shine farther without fading.

It would be really cool if you could add Gels to the light entities in quake.

Perhaps Randall can shed some "light" on this, as he's created a couple of maps with gorgeous outdoor settings.

Oops, i'm too slow :D
Last modification: 999 - 05/27/01 at 11:29:01
