The purpose of the compact PAK file is to eliminate all the crap you DON'T need. But in order to benefit from this, you MUST have a registered version of Quake (PAK1.PAK).

PAK1.PAK can be slimmed down as well. Remove ALL the .BSP (map files) except the ones that start with b_ .

The only file in PAK1.PAK you really need is GFX/POP.LMP, since that is the only file that tells Quake that it is registered. PAK1.PAK also contains a few models and sounds if I remember correctly. You'll need those as well if you want to play any SinglePlayer games (Kustok.bsp uses a couple monsters from the PAK1.PAK)

Put both compact versions of the PAKs on your device and you're good to go.

If you don't own the registered version of Quake then there's nothing much you can do. Really there isn't much excuse for not owning Quake since it is so cheap (I have seen it for $5 - $10)

Last modification: randall - 05/19/01 at 01:53:28
