aygshell.h/aygshell.lib port

Postby R0B » Jul 1, 2001 @ 12:54pm

Hi, I have decided to help out my fellow 720 owners by porting the Pocket pc library, aygshell.h/aygshell.lib, to the hpc2000. I have only take a quick glance at it, and was wondering if someone could tell me what each of the functions do, and how they relate to the pocket pc. Any information will be extreamly welcome. We all ready have gapi, lets ride this new waze as far as it goes with aygshell. In case you were wondering, this will be 100% free, unlike gapi.

Well, I haven't looked at exactly what all is exported in aygshell, but I usually use it for the SIP, which stands for "Soft Input Panel". It is a virtual, onscreen keyboard all Pocket PCs have. There are many different SIPs available, the two that come with all Pocket PCs are a QWERTY-style keyboard, and Jot Character Recognition. Several 3rd party SIPs are available that provide an input method more conducive to screen-tapping input than QWERTY. So, I really see no use whatsoever in going to the trouble of creating a SIP for H/PC devices that have a full keyboard already. Basically all you would have to do is just create a DLL with do-nothing functions following the prototypes as defined in the Windows CE docs. If you need it I can dump the exports for you, or you can use the Dependancy Walker program that comes with VC++ 6.0.

Dan East
