Half-Life for PQ.....

Half-Life for PQ.....

Postby awesomeL337guy » Sep 17, 2001 @ 1:07pm

yo, i heard somewhere that quake an half-life use similar if not identical engine's, is this also true with PQ? can i put a HL pak0.pak file in my ID1 folder and get it to work? i know HL files are huge, the valve pak is 111mb!!! but maybe if i compressed it or took out the unneeded textures and sounds it might work, his is more of a question for the developer, i'm just curious......<br><br>also, i love this game, i just put a tape recoreder on my desk and kill monsters instead of listening to my idiot teacher blab on about the french revolution, this game is great! but how do i get new levels and senarios, i'm more of a HL person so i'm not to sure about the quake community, thx for any help......

Valve licensed the Quake engine from id Software, and then modified it heavily. In fact, I think there is little left of the original code. Half-Life is more Quake II-ish in its capability than Quake. So no, you cannot just plop Half-Life pak files down in a Quake directory for it to load. There are many (thousands) of Quake mods, including Single Player, mission based levels, that may be similar to the Half-Life genre.<br>Try looking through 's Quake I section.<br><br>Dan East

I don't know where this idea came from but half-life uses the quake2 engine not the quake engine. This information is right i dont want anyone to argue with this post until they have a credible source to back it up. If you dont belive me try searching on planethalf-life.com or through back issues of pc gamer. Not to be so defensive i just wanted to inform you guys of this without an arguement.

After licensing Quake, id software let VALVe look at the NEWER Quake2 source. So some of the code includes snippets of Quake2.<br><br>It is so heavily modified (70% is new code) does it really matter any more?

Valve licensed the Quake source, but as randall just said, they included a lot of the Quake 2 source, instead of programming something that already had been programmed. But some of the Quake 2 source wasn't need, and they needed some things that are not in either source. So the base is Quake, but lots of Quake 2 code was used, and they made a lot of their own code.

Code is not the problem. HL needs to much data.
Give me some good data and
I will give you the world
