Not to make myself look even more thick by replying to my own post, but I have consulted the FAQ and the pak0.pak.gz is correctly installed on the iPaq, but I am still getting the error message. I have also downloaded it twice, and installed it twice with the same result. Anyone else having this problem?????

Cheers
Steve

Make sure you unzipped the file one time with WinZip or similar. The File Explorer on your Desktop PC, as well as the File Explorer on your iPaq, will hide the .zip file extension by default.
Make sure you created the \Quake\ID1 directory in the root directory of your iPaq, and not in \My Documents\.

Dan East

Dan,

Cheers for the reply. I've done all that - twice. Thats why I am really at a loss that I am still getting the error message. I will go through the entire process again and see what happens.

Cheers
Steven
Ditto. I have an IPAQ, have followed instructions twice, correctly both times with the same error message as Dan

I don't think that Dan has ever gotten that message. If he did, he knew how to fix it.

I can absolutely guarantee that one of the following is true:

The pak0.pak.gz file is in the wrong place on your device. When you start viewing "Mobile Device" on your desktop PC you are NOT in the root directory. You start in the My Documents folder. You must enter the "My Pocket PC" folder to enter the root directory of your Pocket PC.

The file has not been unzipped and is really pak0.pak.zip, even though your File Explorer may be hiding the .zip extension from you.

The pak0.pak.gz file has been corrupted or truncated. Make sure the file size on your device matches the file size on your desktop machine.

Dan East

Further developments on the Ipaq Wad file problem..Thanks again to Dan. If you read his advice VERY carefully regarding the root directory issue then indeed the game starts to function well.

Dan, thanks for all the help and keeping your patience with the uninitiated.

Yeah totally agree with above.

If in doubt 'RFM'

My problem was that I didn't download and install the pak0.pak.gz file. Sounds stupid I know, but Tucows didn't suggest that you needed 2 downloads.

In short you need:
autoexec.cfg
gx.dll
PocketQuake.exe
pak0.pak.gz

installed in the correct directories.

Thanks for the earlier posts, which got me fragging monsters.

Kriminal
