Faster speed

Faster speed

I was wondering if it is possible to make Quake run a little faster? :?:

You could software overclock your PPC if you have an Arm device (using JS overclock) although only to 221mhz, as 236mhz will crash PQ. Mips devices can be hardware overclocked but its a fair bit trickier.

You could also edit autoexec.cfg to change some of the settings. I can't remember much of the changes/additions of the top of my head but i thinkr_drawviewmodel "0" hides your weapon model (less polys to draw), Loadas8bit loads samples as 8-bit, etc. You can also experiment with values for r_maxedges, r_maxsurfs & r_maxparticles for better performance. BTW I might have spelt some of these wrong, but you can double-check them on the many quake websites. There are a few more but i can't remember them right now, but i'm sure someone else will....

Yes, a very simple way. Buy a faster ppc. But seriously, try editing the config file.

I have a Jornada 525. Theres no overclocking software for SH3 devices. Theres not even documentation for hardware overclocking. Im brave enough to go in my computer and overclock it because I have a fairly decent knowledge of PC's.

I would go in and overclock my Jornada, but I don't wanna waste my money by breaking my ppc a few months after I bought it... Im happily content with my Jornada. Im only 14 and I have saved up around $500 dollars after a few months. If the Xscale lives up to their hype, I might buy one of them when my Jornada breaks down. I have a feeling this might be in a couple of months because it is getting pretty hot after only 30 minutes of running.

Usually (in cases like mine) we have never owned a Pocket PC before and don't know the drawbacks. I was looking for a good value and I did some research because I dont wanna lose my device and have it cost a ton of money. I read plenty of reviews for the Jornada 525, but none stated the lack of compatability with games or the relatively slow speed compared to something only $100 more.

Im not complaining though, just stating my opinion
