Have you personally been able to change the script to be able to turn left/right instead of strafe? I played around with the config and changed the buttons and had no luck. Even in the console when I remap the buttons ingame, it still assigns them to strafe. If you have code that lets me turn left/right with the D-Pad, then please post it and I will put it in my config file.
