yeah well not everyone is l337 and uses irc crap all the time... in fact most peeps that arent into warez don't.  so itd be nice if the link in the sig worked out of the box as I like just cliking and saying ok.  maybe i should own a palm for wanting something simple huh?

It should work just by clicking the link in the sig, preferrably selecting a nickname and clicking "Connect Now". <br>The connection errors you seem to have had were probably just a temporary error on the irc.east.gblx.net server.<br><br>The "server name" thing is optional, if you don't live near NY you could choose a server closer to you if you prefer.
