I'm making a logo for fun, and this is my idea, but I'm having problems getting to to work. I'll explain the best I can: I have a black-to-blue gradient going from black to blue from the outside in. Kind of like a point of concentration, the center being the bluest. I want to make a 3d-looking X to slap over on the left side of the screen. Kind of like at a upward angle. What program would I need to make a precise X at that angle? Can I do it in PS or will I need some sort of 3d program?

3D program.

There's a special program that does just 3D text for free, it's great, I used to use it all the time. I think it started with an X ... could have been Z, but I doubt it. Search around.

http://www.3dtextmaker.com/
http://www.download.com/AC3D/3000-2121_4-10235506.html (not free but 14 day trial)
http://www.debugmode.com/wax/ (for video but there's bound to be an export frame option)

Need I say more?

Though honestly can't see why you haven't used PS's bevel effect or something to do the same job to a text layer.[/quote]
