One space or two?

One space or two?

Postby johannpublic » Feb 21, 2002 @ 4:45am

Eh, this ALWAYS bugs me...

Which looks better to you?

Hello. You are a bug. So what.

or

Hello. You are a bug. So what.

I, for some reason, use the single space between a period and the beginning of a new sentence...but lately, I've noticed that quite a few people (my whole family, people at school, etc) use the double space....what's the correct way? Am I insane?

Editorial Editor.

It's one space in an article, other than that it's your choice.

Well, not to be even more picky, but it is a gramatical issue.

Standard use of the english language in a formal letter, or the written word is that a larger space follows a full stop than would follow a break in words.

Typographically, that would be two spaces. So, in a way you are right refractor.

Personally, I don't find it archaic at all. I wish more people would punctuate, capitalize and space properly in e-mail...I hate when they don't.

It's too bad this forum won't let you put two spaces next to each other.
