LOL, You guys are GREAT! I'm ... not glad I'm back home but I'm glad I'm online again.
First of all, I have a Dell Inspiron 8200, which is the best laptop available today hands down.
I was on my grandmother's farm in Ohio, a small town by the name of Hemlock. It's in the middle of the National Forest. I'm mad at Rob because he was at Ohio State University the same time I was, I visited the campus and everything, but unbeknownest to me, I could have walked right by Rob!!!
I tried to connect online several times through AOL. Now, last time I was up there with my pocketpc and it's modem I connected perfectly to Earthlink, it was reasonably fast then. But AOL, first it couldn't autodetect my embedded v92 modem in my laptop, it just hard froze until the power button didn't work, I had to take the batteries out to reset it. So I just told it it was some kind of generic fast modem. But I'm not sure whether the phones are pulse or tone. I pick up one phone and dial 555, well it's a pulse sound. So I say to use pulse. Well it connects, at 800bps. When AOL tries to download the phone numbers for my area it took 10 minutes, then hard froze again. Okay. Well I pick up this other phone, maybe my ears were betraying me. Push 555, BEEP BEEP BEEP. It's TONE! What the junk. I go back to the other phone, it's still pulse. But both work perfectly fine. Okay, so I set up the modem to Tone but tell AOL I have "no tone service." Works great, I get dialup numbers, all long distance of course, I am in the middle of a national forest preserve. Okay, so I dial up and connect at 19200bps. But that's too fast for my phone lines up there. It craps out before it communicates with AOL's network. Then I connect again, this time I connect at something around 9600bps. Great, it works but it's slow. Then all the sudden I'm kicked off. "AOL Has detected an update and needs to install it" SHITTY FUCKING BITCH! I press cancel, it works fine without the update, but now I have to spend another 5 minutes (yes, five minutes) to dial up AOL and hopefully connect. I do, at a good slow and steady speed. But I get kicked off, the phone rings right after that! JUNKING MARKER BLACKERS! I pick up the phone, "Hel-" I hear voices on the other end. "Ya, Sue. the family's great. So... what are you doing for dinner tonight. I can't think of anything good." "Oh, nothing much. Tim usually comes in after work and sits down infront of the tube with his can of pop and wouldn't know what I cooked anyway..."
You can guess from that point on I just about threw my laptop through the window and cursed so much. It looks like the lines are so louped that I'd never get online.
I don't know why I told you that, or why you'd be interested. Just need to vent. Thanks for listening.
