You have good ideas. If you want to stay with the forum as your prime feature, you'll have to cut down on the bs, though, if you want PM to grow. But I sure would appreciate a better news (and updated) section.

on the trek forum whenever a news item is posted they make a new topic in the forum in case anyone wants to discuss it. that'll cut down on the stupid topics.

Yeh.. Randall's right. I would too like to see more focus on the development arena. I would like to see PM as a hangout for as many developers as it can handle.

Right now, some of the developers are turning away from PM...

To quote Digby from one of his posts: "Why do I have to put up with this site?". I totally agree with him, first Paul and now Ideot. It's way fun at the first but then it eats you up from inside out. Not funny anymore.

Also I think that people like Ideot who merely posts crap and Paul, who, by his own words: "I just type bad words so that the opponent feels bad" are bringing the site down quicker than it took it to be popular. The only positive with them is that they live up this community, full of "PM members with holier-than-thou attitude".

Bottomline, if PM wants to transform into a developer corner, it has to get slightly more professional.

(Flames accepted)

Maybe a forum for developers only, like only people with a developer tag can get in...what do you dev's think of that?

Relax, Paul :) I'm not pissed off anymore... I just gave some example.. You from the PAST and Ideot from today. As a matter of fact I have to give ya some credit, you've straightened up pretty much since September.

But our little village Ideot still chuffs chuffs on. And, Ideot, it doesn't matter whether or not you're posting in some forum or not. It's WHAT you're posting in the other forums that counts. It brings down the overall impression of the site.

I dunno about the special tag thingie. There are alot of developers who just pop in for some info, or to provide info. And what about the casual visitor?

I don't post in the Dev forum much, but I do read it every day, just to see what is going on. (and be amazed at the vast knowledge floating around there)

Back on topic
You have 3 basic profiles here....
1) Developers
2) Users
3) Casual Users

All 3, with little exception, are PPC users. Some hardcore, others not. So, the forums in general (like anything) provide filler for the Casual Users and keeps them around, plus lends to a more contiguous presense for the Users and Develpers.

The Developer forum is required to keep the developers here, the more pros you get the better life is. I would even suggest creating 'Board Experts' for each board. Maybe title them 'PM Subject Pros' or something. Ask Dan and/or Digby to do dev, get one of the guys to do Multimedia, and so on. This way you always have a pro on hand to help with the topic.

Again, though, to satisfy all 3, I would think that up to date news, and stuff like that would help.
