Child Corruption

Postby Warren » Mar 29, 2002 @ 4:25am

Did anyone see the "Corruption of the American Child" on FOX? That stupid show made me so farging mad! All they were saying the whole hour was how this generation is horribly corrupt! They were like, how can our teenagers go to drugs and sex, what has happened? Yeah, and in the 60s and 70s, there were no drugs, of course!~ They were saying straight out that music corrupts us, everything on TV corrupts us, COMPUTER GAMES corrupt us! STUPID IDIOTS! Then they went for a half hour on internet porn, saying how parents should shield us from it. Then they had this 8-year-old kid say he was an Internet porn-addict. YOU CANNOT STEREOTYPE TEENAGERS!! WE ARE NOT ALL FUCKING IMMATURE DRUGGY IDIOTS!! I do nearly everything on the show that they said is bad. Like to heavy metal, play computer games, watch TV, and the Internet. Pretty much all of us do all of this, so are we all horribly corrupt people? OF COURSE NOT!! Here's my theory, which a friend's mother actually told me. She said that it goes in cycles. First, the parents completely control and disapline the children (1900-1950s), then when those children become the parents, the children frolic around and no one cares (1960s-1980s), then, when the previously independant generation becomes the parents, they become control freaks on their children (1990s-present). Then when we have children, we'll let them run around and do anything because we don't want them to live like how we are now. My dad would always tell me stories of running away with my mom (before married) to Mexico, and then tells me that if I do anything like what he did, that he'd kill me. Our parents are the hypocrites!!! Yesterday, we had this speaker come in to talk about drugs. He said, AND I QUOTE! "My generation and the generation before that had an excuse to do drugs, it was ok. But today is different, it's 2002, and we have the Internet; there's NO excuse for you people to do drugs!". They had an excuse to do drugs!!! WTF!!! If anything, WE have the EXCUSE to do drugs!!! We are the most stressed out generation. Look at TV, there's always those stupid ads saying "ask your children about EVERYTHING, know everything and don't give them any privacy or independence!", well, it's not that bold, but it's interpretted that way. GOD DAMN IT!! I HATE IT WHEN STUPID IGNORANT PEOPLE STEREOTYPE OUR GENERATION!!! AHHH! What about people that grew up in the early 80s, did people go around saying that Kiss corrupted the children! NO! DON'T PEOPLE REALISE THAT IT'S THEIR GENERATION THAT'S SUPPLYING ALL THE VIOLENT ENTERTAINMENT FOR US!!! AND THEY'RE BLAMING US FOR IT!!! HYPOCRITY!!! If anyone thinks that teenagers today are corrupt, it's the parents' fault. Divorce rate in the US is horribly high, that's what causes kids to get screwed up! And all the wife beaters and stuff! It's insane!!! Look at Woodstock '69, so many drugs and so much sex, and does anyone complain about that?! Then look at Woodstock '99, and all the parents complaining about the drugs and sex!!! And whenever you say "but you did at when you were my age!" they always say "yeah, but that was back then.". "Back then"? What crap!! Did anyone see that show? It just made me so fucking mad. My dad blames absolutely everything on our generation. He says, "Warren, why is your generation so fucked up?" and I say "and yours wasn't?". The show said that by the time we're 18, we would have seen 16,000 murders on TV. And who controls TV? OUR PARENT'S GENERATION!! How can they blame it on us, when they're the ones making it!! *sign*

D00D!!!

Warren i saw that and it pissed me off too!!! The host was trying to prejudice everyone against the entertainment industry, saying it was their fault for everything. Stupid parents are to blame, its not a movie or anything else but the PARENTS

that and well...human nature

Good god. Still spouting this kind of crap? I was born in the early 70's, and it's the same ol' story. My parents heard it in highschool in the late 60's.

I'm blaming it all on Kiss for destructing three decades- lol. Come to think of it, Ozzy Osbourne has been around since the 60's and still corrupting people of all ages. Go Ozzman. :)

I... we adopted 2 Romanian Children. The absence of nurturing, attention, morals and values reduced them to kids with animalistic behavior- instinct and survival tactics. Without someone to teach them, they teach themselves.

These kids were almost thrown away by their government because they were "lost causes". Even US experts told us they probably won't make it. Thats pretty rough- considering Daniel was only 11 and Florentina was 3. Too many years of bad upbringing. He is almost 13 now and although his behavior is a little odd, he has made huge strides.

How does this relate to the discussion? You can't fail to teach a child and then condemn them. You teach your kids from the day they are born. And you NEVER stop. I still get words of wisdom from my parents all the time.

We missed the opportunity to grind these into Daniels skull when he needed them most- around age 4. This is why it is so difficult for him to adjust his mindset. He might still grow up to be a dope dealer or a thief. And in that event I'll be forever angry at myself for not trying hard enough to fix him.

The difference is, now he knows its wrong, and more importantly WHY it is wrong. He seriously didn't know that before.

The kids today aren't any worse than we were. There are always a few that will be troublemakers til the day they die. I knew kids that brought shotguns, pistols and AKs to school "just in case". They rarely got caught, because no-one was looking for an arsenal like that in a schoolyard. I must have been dumb as a rock for not telling anyone.

Warren, I don't understand your dad. A parent can't possibly teach their kid that something is wrong and then claim it was "okay" for the parent to do. See, now what he has done is set a mindset that "If anything, WE have the EXCUSE to do drugs!!! We are the most stressed out generation"

And that was a direct quote from you. Is that really what you think?

Warren...Techmage - have mercy! Use paragraphs, please!

This is one of the reasons I admire Randall. He has the guts to get two children from the street and help them. How many of you would have done that? In all honesty, I do not think I will ever do something like that.

And still he manages to surprise us all with his great art, with his work on Snails and everything else!

Randall is really a friend. When I need him, he is there to support me. Seriously, he is one of the greatest, if not the greatest person I ever had the pleasure to meet.

He's not gay, he likes Lisa, remember?

But children acting psychotic cannot be blamed on one thing.
But the divorce rate of 90% is a big influence. Why are so many people getting married? Why don't they just live together until they get sick of each other, wasting the priests time if you ask me. Just elope and then there's no mess to clean up since you know you're going to get divorced.

The US has the highest in the world, I wouldn't be surprised if it's really 90%, but I'd give an estimated guess at 66%. My parents have been married for 23 years, that's 22 years longer than most.

Oh, and Milhouse is bi, he's straight to Lisa, but secretly is also gay.
