Lets state this first I do use linux, i have a totally seperate linux box next to my windows machine but i dont use it to be a hardcore hacker type anti-ms person i use it becuase it gets the job done better than windows for some things at least in my opinion.

Before the XP line i wasnt an ms basher but ms i getting way out of hand.

Reason 1: Activation = BS

Reason 2: Not only is Activation a royal pain in the ass but it is also up to other no good. I was reading a ZDNet article about how ms plans to use activation to force the IT industry to make annual upgrades. See the way MS wants to do it is limit activation on its volume licensing by IT's so after a while they WILL be forced into an upgrade if they want it or not.

Reason 3: New anti-virus plan, MS wants to incorprate there own scanner into windows wich will cut out buisness for other companies just as they have done for Real networks by including Media player into XP. This means they can also use there own methods of entry into a system without asking and by creating there own scanner there is no way of stopping this as Macafee or Norton could easily do.

Reason 4: MS embedded tools, everyons says ya its free its great but no one realizes that the there buisness model on this is to coax developers into ppc instead of palm, and then when the mass share of handhelds is ppc they will charge for it and there goes your free development so enjoy it while it lasts kids. I personally feel they should just charge for it now or keep it free forver.

Now im not for piracy and i think activation is a good idea but only to a certain extent and it has crossed the line, it should be a one time thing only. I also have no probelms with commercial software nor freeware/open source i belive they both serve there purpose and they do it well. I do not hate ms products but i think that they are trying to take over the way we compute and turn computers into just another proprietary appliance that they pretty much control.
