My new website is up, and i need criticsms/ideas/suggestions

Postby glenthemole » Jul 9, 2002 @ 9:42pm

Hi all, I've started a small web hosting business with someone, and the website has just gone up
www.ripplespeed.com
Not everything is working yet, but I would like a few comments and ideas on how it could be improved. It also has very few pages, but i cannot think of anything else at the moment to put onto the site, so if anyone has any ideas please tell them.

Thanks

glen

I like the design, but one thing bothers me, the Flash on the front page, and the fact I can't run it on the W3C Validator. I'd fix the error that it specifies at http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http% ... ype=Inline and rerun the test. It will help browser compatibility by far, and shouldn't a web hosting company be compliant to the HTML standard? ;)

I like how you offer a clear link to a support e-mail address, and still have access to the HelpDesk. Also, what's with the stock photo reuse? :P Otherwise, very nice job on the page, with only some minor quips about it (Clever how you named your plans with ripples) Though the US pricing link should be a bit more clear.

ood luck with your company!

[edit] Noticed a slight consistincy error, on the US prices, the UNITED STATES with flag text is a link to the US prices, but is normal text on all the others.
holy internets batman.

Basically all the stupid little things I ranted about, and things so minor I don't remember them :P Nothing big, I just couldn't say the site was great ;)

Looks great, very professional. I dont like the way you handled the flags though (you used 400 pixel wide images and display them smaller, just resize them in photoshop or whatever)

1. You're aiming at US and UK customers, but:

Ripplespeed's server is located in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

If I was in the UK, I wouldn't consider using that server.

2. On my display I get about 1/5 of a screen of white nothingness at the bottom of the page. Maybe put the blue bar background over the page rather than the &gt;td&lt;s

3. <img src="http://www.ripplespeed.com/images/hostingtop.gif">

Oopsie. Spellcheck.

4. Hosting page:

"Data Transfer"... per year, month, eon?

5. Acceptable usage:

Font changes in the middle of the "Examples of unacceptable content or links:"

section.

Typo:
"recover the date"

6. Support page:

two main options? Only two are listed.

Typo/spelling:
"preffered"

7. Basically you really need to spellcheck the lot of it, and some of the stuff in the acceptable usage policy isn't all that "professional" (I mean grammar-wise rather than content wise).

Other than that, it looks rather nice.

HTH, cheers,

Ref.

Thanks for all the feedback, refractor, you mentioned a white strip along the bottom of the screen, is this just because the page is not long enough to fill the screen, or is it something else, because it doesn't happen on my screen.

You probably wont see it on lower resolutions. But my moniter is set to 1280x1024, and I see the large white strip accross the bottom of the screen.
