Hey guys. I was just thinking about uses for my desktop computer since I'm taking my laptop to college and leaving this thing here at home.
But the most appealing thing I could come up with was to turn it into an Arcade Machine. My dad and I could build a cabinet pretty easily. My monitor would be great for it. I'd just need speakers and joysticks and track balls and a couple other things.
I could hook this Arcade PC up to my LAN and cable modem and download arcade games instantly. I'd also have SETI@Home and UnitedDevice's Cancer Research. I'd set up my watercooling system on it again and just let this computer run 24/7. This would be a really cool SETI@Home and Cancer Research workhorse machine, plus whenever anyone wanted to they could play arcade games on it. It would be almost completely quiet due to watercooling, and the screen would go into powersaving mode so there wouldn't be any worries about excessive electrical usage or burning images into the screen.
Would this be a kick ass thing or is my imagination going to far. I know Hanaho sells ArcadePC's, but those are slower than what I have now, although reasonably inexpensive for everything that they give you, a complete machine, decked out cabinet, and an entire collection of Capcom games, not to mention their very own unique ArcadePC OS running it all. But I just think my idea up there would kick ass. Because my computer processes those SETI units in no time, and if it were running 24 seven I'd be up there in the 98% percentile (90.5% now).
So what's up. Should i do it or not? Should I donate my desktop to my mom or turn it into an arcade machine and data crunching workhorse with cable internet LAN connection?
