It's called postulating! Let's postulate that a circle can have a radius of infinity. Now after postulating that, why would it's outer most edge be a straight line. I'm trying to debunk that theory, I heard it somewhere and can't understand how they came up with that. I don't believe it would have an outer rim at all. But there is nothing in the universe that has a radius of infinite, not even the universe itself. But these are all things that God has placed to vex mankind, test our faith. I can understand it all, because it can't be understood. All knowledge will come in due time. Ya know, heaven is going to be really cool, I want to go there right now. But alas, we immortals can never taste the lucious ambrosia placed before our lips. How I long for the sweat peace brought only through death. The Kindred are doomed to a life of slavery, the never ending slavery of thine own thirst for mortality.

err, where am I? Sorry, I've been playing to much Vampire: The Masquerade lately. I'll quit now.

wtf this whole thread is a stupid idea bbased upon crap. Okay you can't divide something into nothing parts. think of it taht way

0 = NOTHING divide 4 into nothing parts. Think about that. its nothin none don't divide the answer is 0. Wow i just solved it. Think about it.

Digby wins the second round by explaining this whole fiasco with mathematical fact, and earns extra bonus points for doing so with SIMPLE MATH.

Chuck gets bonus points for re-iterating his previous "undefined statement" in a creative way.

OK now that we've got that out of our respective systems, time for a little humor...

An engineer, a physicist, and a mathematician are shown a pasture with a herd of sheep, and told to put them inside the smallest possible amount of fence. The engineer is first. He herds the sheep into a circle and then puts the fence around them, declaring, "A circle will use the least fence for a given area, so this is the best solution." The physicist is next. She creates a circular fence of infinite radius around the sheep, and then draws the fence tight around the herd, declaring, "This will give the smallest circular fence around the herd." The mathematician is last. After giving the problem a little thought, he puts a small fence around himself and then declares, "I define myself to be on the outside!"

Ain't math grand?

ok i know...thread is dead but...1/0 = 1 1/0 or 2 1/0 or 3 1/0 and so on
which could also be 1 and 1 1/0 or 1 and 1 and 1/0 in infinitum. so its gotta be infinity b/c u can keep dividing by zero forever.

a = 1/0, then 1 = a * 0
if a= 1 1/0, then 1 = 1 1/0 * 0, solve that..
1 = 1/0 * 0 and cancel zero's
1 = 1

i think.

Last modification: JongJungBu - 06/19/01 at 10:26:44

There seems to be an err in Jongs math.

a = 1 1/0
a = 2 1/0
a = 3 1/0

all break down to the same thing:

a = 1/0

because of the way mixed numbers are converted to an improper fraction, so they can be multiplied or added/subtracted.

1 1/2 = 3/2
2 1/2 = 5/2
1 1/0 = 1/0

Last modification: randall - 06/19/01 at 14:13:43
