I went to the bike store today and it turns out that they don't stock the Trek Bruiser 1, but they have the equivalent from Gary Fisher, the Gary Fisher Opie. Unfortunately they sold their last one last week, but they had the model up from the Opie, the Mullet (yes, the Mullet), the main difference is that the Mullet has disc brakes, the frame and set up is exactly the same, a few components are slightly better (but beyond what I need). The shop has a trailer park behind it and a rough dirt trail in the woods, so I went out there for 20 minutes and came back totally muddy

. The bike is amazing, the disc brakes are orgasmic, stops on a dime with no effort and makes an awesome hiss sound, but it is something I can live without. The suspension is very soft, I got up to about 25mph and hit a speed bump and it was nothing, completely smooth. I went into a field of mud, fallen trees, and snow, and had too much fun in there, then I found a flooded parking lot of mud and gravel and again had too much fun there, total confidence on the Mullet. I went back to the store all muddy and apologized to the guy for getting the bike so dirty, but he said it was cool. The Mullet is $570, out of my price range, so I bargained for $470, but MSRP is $600, so they couldn't accomodate. I ordered an Opie, $360, $200 cheaper without the disc brakes and unnecessary extras, so it'll be coming in next week. The suspension is 100mm travel, 24-speed, 2.4" wide wheels/tires, and is INSANELY light, effortless to pick up with one hand. I can't wait til it comes, ohh man. I want to upgrade the petals to the alloy BMX, the Opie comes with nylon BMX, and the alloy ones on the Mullet were great, felt like putting your feet on flypaper.
