Graphics card memory

Postby Blade Runner » Jun 19, 2005 @ 7:26pm

Before buying my card I checked a lot of web pages about the 6800 and x800, and the scores showed that the x800xt-pe pwnt everything except in doom 3. The only thing that keeps Nvidia winning is the 6600gt in sli, not very costly and pretty good.
EDIT: And for the video-in plus HDTV output :P.
No, I've never seen that, I've never seen anyone drive their garbage out to the curb and bang the hell out of it with a stick. No, I've never seen that.

For once, you are right. The X800XT PE does beat the 6800 Ultra in most, games. The problem is, you were one of the FEW lucky people who got one. ATI was getting terrible yields on their X800XT PE's and they are just *now* becoming availale to buy.

So for the top end cards, most people got a 6800Ultra over an X800XT PE which were impossible to get when they came out.

Now, lets look over the midrange cards.

6800GT vs X800Pro. 6800GT kills the X800Pro which only has 12 pipelines to the GT's 16. With PS3.0 support and the 16 pipes, the GT was the card to buy.

So people ended up buying the 6800GT over the X800Pro.

Now lets look at low range cards.

6600GT vs X700 series.

No question about it, 6600GT killed the X700 in almost every benchmark.

So for low range 6600GT beats ATI's X700 series cards.

So for last generation, Nvidia owned ATI in sales. Sure ATI has the single fastest card, they were impossible to get. Also, I have no idea what you are talking about via the 6600gt SLI. You would have to be retarded to do that. 6800GT > 6600GT SLI. Also 6800GT = $350ish now. 6600GT SLI = $360. So I don't know where you got that whole 6600GT SLI crap.

Here is a nice little graph that shows what video cards HardForum users bought. Keep in mind that they are knowlegdable and they know what card is better/available in that pricerange.

Any forum that uses the term "[H]ard" in normal course of conversation is not intelligent at all.

I don't quite understand what that graph is supposed to prove though, besides the fact that forum is full of rich whtie kids.

Acctually where I come from 2 6600gts in sli would be quite a bit cheaper than a 6800gt, even concidering the one that I bought was when it first came out.
The graph, if real obviously shows Nvidia killing ati in what I would concider a computer "enthusiast" group. I wouldent say their all rich either since second is the 6600gt, although I would think overall the 6600gt would outsell the 6800gt.

For my measily pc budget the 6600GT was the best performance for the money. I'm glad I got it. Every game I throw at it runs on max settings without loosing frames. I own ati and nvidia. I usually go for my price point and what company is achieving the best results. Couldn't be happier with my last 2 Nvidia cards though.

If you are looking for a game that will push your pc to the limit, ignore all those 1st person shooters, 3rd person adventure, racing/car games and go for Roller Coaster Tycoon 3! I kid you not, use sandbox mode, build about 5 RollerCoasters and some small rides. you'll see how warm your pc can really get
