Umm, the Russians would not have won if it wasnt for us and the Russian winter. In fact they were pushed all the way back to Stalingrad. Also its great you got your little textbook out and all and conjured up some nifty numbers, but numbers don't always win wars. In fact we would've been in Germany first, and Patton and MacArthur (those were the US generals in WW2) wanted to go in, but we held out because our President wanted to set up for the future. What I mean by that, is that he wanted the Russian's army in certain places (aka Germany) so that when the war was over we would have the Russian army surrounded in case they tried anything. In fact it was a known fact that a plan was discovered where the Russians wanted to conquer Europe following their occupation of Germany after World War 2 and this led into the cold war. Its the simple fact that we had "corraled" them into Germany that prevented this. If you think that Russia would've won the war without our presence you are sadly mistaken as they had no food, and half their army was destroyed. Not to mention without the US attacking on the other front, the second half of the German army led by Rommell, would have turned its attention to Russia and Russia would have had THE ENTIRE GERMAN ARMY directing their attention against them. I suggest if you have the time you read the book "Hitler the survival myth" as it explains were most of Russia's army was towards the end of the war and why. Sorry but your talking to a World War 2 fanatic here, and there is no way Russia wouldve won that war, not to mention it was the US, NOT RUSSIA who liberated France, Britan and two thirds of the concentration camps. Switzerland is great though, hey after all didnt they steal all the Jew's money? Yeah very nice.

Ok, let's just say that without the US, Russia would have lost, but without Russia, the US would have lost, because they would have been out numbered, so let's be happy that the allies won.

Now I must explain to you about Switzerland. I did a 20 page report on Switzerland for French class 2 months ago (I know, I get a lot of homework, I'm writting a report about bladder cancer right now if anyone wants to know). First of all, I am Jewish, so this will not be biased in any way. During the first few years of WWII, Switzerland remained neutral, yet they were not; politically yes, but not in what they did. Germany gave Switzerland 2 choices. 1, be invaded, destroyed, and the people killed. Or 2, house stolen money and property stole from Jews by the nazis, and not be invaded at all. Naturally, Switzerland chose number 2, but that did not mean that they went to the axis. The Swiss Bank harbored money stolen, but the government also ran a secret program to house and harbor Jews from the nazis. The people participated too (there was this 1 doctor that saved 70 Jews, I don't remember his name). The government hid them in mountains. In all, approximately 700,000 Jews were saved by the Swiss government and people. After WWII, the Swiss Bank admitted to keeping stolen money, but has conducted an operation to return the money, which so far has been overall unsuccessful, because there were few records on whose money it was. I'd say Switzerland was on the allies side, they worked with the nazis to save a bunch of Jews, obviously worth it.

And living in Switzerland, you can pretty much walk to Germany, France, Italy, Liechtenstein, Austria, and if you can really walk, Czech Rep.

It's debates like this that make me want to build a spaceship and drift far far away from this world. True, in space there is no rootbeer (Snails), but it's nice and quiet.

NY, just don't forget the US was there because of Britain. If GB didn't have airfields or was conquered, what do you think the US would use as staging base for the air raids? Transatlantic flights? If it weren't for the air raids pounding them night and day, the Germans would have won on the west front or at least would be able to resist a land invasion. For D-Day to work, hundreds of air raids were launched on specific targets. From bases on GB. So first thank the Brits for surviving Germany's air raids.
And who won the war for the Allies wasn't the US or Russia or GB. It was Hitler. If he wasn't a moron Germany would have won. So please stop the bs and go study military history.

You read a lot? Don't think so. You weren't even able to read those little words under my avatar (ok, I'll save you the trouble: Location: Brazil. BTW, what Brazilian city was bombed by the Luftwaffe?). And the airfields were established after the invasion. School books don't count as military history.
And for Chrit's sake, when did MacArthur lead troops in the european theater?

Paul, you're right. If NY wants, he should make a new thread at the Anything section and we can continue the discussion there.
